About this role
Purpose: Provide support, guidance and coaching to the coating supervisors in order to remove any barriers preventing the shift teams from becoming high-performing proactive teams.
Essential Functions:
Leadership & People Management
• Manage and develop coating supervisors through daily coaching, decision-making support, SABA objective setting, and quarterly performance check-ins.
• Oversee supervisor staffing, training, and development to ensure effective shift leadership.
• Lead technician development initiatives and promote an operator-driven manufacturing process.
• Develop and administer operator assessments and competency evaluations.
• Conduct hourly technician engagement interviews with support from the Coating Manager to strengthen communication and employee involvement.
• Plan, facilitate, and lead supervisor meetings.
• Ensure supervisor compliance with company policies, procedures, and labor agreement requirements.
• Develop and manage coating backup supervisors
Operations & Process Management
• Assist with and monitor coating line startups, training and auditing supervisors on proper startup procedures.
• Serve as the primary subject matter expert for startups involving infrequently produced products.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process of Record standards.
• Promote process adherence across all coating operations, with emphasis on critical manufacturing processes.
• Provide guidance on daily production scheduling and shift events.
• Update and maintain operational documentation as required.
• Audits based on departments needs
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote and support Quality Kaizens (QKs) and Hazard Identifications (HazIDs) among supervisors and technicians.
• Drive SOP compliance through regular audits and verification of Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviors (KSB) adherence.
• Ensure alignment with NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct, Values, and Principles.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
• Sustain RCA reviews for all coating runs and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into operations.
• Metrology System Control (MSC) adherence to maintain product quality.
• Implement solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.
• Identify waste reduction opportunities and drive operational efficiency improvements.
• Promote and sustain 5S initiatives and workplace organization standards.
Communication & Reporting
• Promote effective communication between shift teams and day-shift personnel.
• Update Gemba boards with daily operational metrics and performance information.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare management reports.
• Maintain documentation, SOPs, operational records, and performance metrics.
Administrative Responsibilities
• Manage hourly employee timecards and vacation requests.
• Maintain and update supervisor coverage schedules on a weekly basis.
• Review and oversee supervisor approval processes for employee timekeeping and vacation requests.
• Coordinate and manage cover supervisor projects and daily operational activities.

Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (or equivalent technical experience) is required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS office, specifically MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Excellent writing skills for reports, presentations, policies, procedures, and specifications.
• Mechanical aptitude
Qualifications Desired:
• Advanced Problem-Solving Skills (Six Sigma)
• Chemical Engineering degree (or equivalent technical experience)
• Reliability engineering experience
• Strong in analytical, innovative and strategic competencies
• Practical experience in Batch plant and Furnace operations, Float Glass Forming, Annealing and/or online CVD coating is desired.
