Lift Mechanic

Job Summary
The Lift Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of lift equipment, including elevators, platform lifts, stair lifts, personnel lifts, hydraulic lifts, and related mechanical and electrical systems. The role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform preventative maintenance on lift systems and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control system problems.
• Repair and replace defective components, including motors, pumps, valves, cables, relays, switches, and safety devices.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, damage, or operational issues.
• Test lift systems after maintenance and repairs to verify safe operation.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
• Troubleshoot programmable controls and electronic monitoring systems.
• Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and inspection reports.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide timely corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, local building codes, and company safety procedures.
• Coordinate with customers, operators, contractors, and other maintenance personnel.
• Assist with installation, modernization, and commissioning of new lift equipment.
• Maintain inventory of repair parts, tools, and supplies.
• Participate in scheduled on-call rotations as required.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical training in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or industrial maintenance preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
• Trade school certificate or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanical Technology, or related field.
• State elevator mechanic license (where required).
• Experience with elevators, accessibility lifts, stair lifts, escalators, or industrial lifting equipment.
• OSHA safety training certification.

Working Conditions
