Job summary

The Respiratory Nurse will play a key role in the identification, management, and ongoing review of patients with chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, and other long-term respiratory diseases. This role is ideally suited to a nurse who is either already an Independent Prescriber or working towards this qualification. The practice is fully committed to supporting professional development, including prescribing training where required.

Job description Job responsibilities

Deliver high-quality respiratory care to patients with asthma, COPD, and other long-term respiratory conditions. Lead and coordinate respiratory QOF management, ensuring accurate coding, recall systems, and achievement of targets. Conduct comprehensive respiratory assessments, including symptom review, and treatment optimisation. Manage acute respiratory presentations, including exacerbations of asthma and COPD, infections, and undifferentiated respiratory symptoms. Develop and implement personalised care plans in collaboration with patients, promoting self-management and education. Prescribe or recommend evidence-based treatments in line with local and national guidelines (if qualified as Independent Prescriber). Work closely with GPs, ANPs, and pharmacists to ensure safe and effective prescribing and medication reviews. Provide smoking cessation advice and support where appropriate.

Identify patients requiring escalation or specialist referral and ensure timely onward management.
