Salary: £65,000 - 65,000 per year
Requirements: Significant commercial experience as a Backend Engineer, including ownership of production systems in a commercial environment.Strong TypeScript or Python development experience.Experience building and operating production systems at scale.Strong understanding of distributed systems and API design.Experience working with relational databases and performance optimisation.Experience working within cloud environments, ideally Google Cloud Platform.Strong debugging and problem-solving capabilities.Experience supporting production services and operational environments.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Proven ability to deliver business-critical software.E-commerce experience is nice to have.Logistics or fulfilment systems experience is nice to have.Payment or commission platform experience is nice to have.Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience is nice to have.Google Cloud Platform experience is nice to have.Next.js or tRPC familiarity is nice to have.FastAPI experience is nice to have. Responsibilities: Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.Own critical production systems and ensure reliability, performance and maintainability.Take ownership of existing platforms and services, gaining a deep understanding of how they operate and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, performance and maintainability.Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical and operational issues.Participate in incident response and post-incident learning activities.Support architectural decisions that improve scalability and resilience.Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Operational stakeholders.Contribute to engineering standards, code review practices, release discipline and software delivery best practice.Mentor less experienced engineers and support team development.Improve observability, monitoring and operational visibility.Identify and address technical debt and system risks.Support integrations with third-party services, logistics partners and business systems.Contribute to continuous improvement across engineering processes.
