Job summary
The St John's Institute of Dermatology is seeking a part-time (8.75 PAs) Consultant in Dermatology to join dynamic enthusiastic teams embedded within the forward-thinking Institute.
The Institute is involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with the appropriate skills to complement our team and to help keep our service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. The Institute offers a wide range of services to diverse patient populations with skin conditions. The post-holder will undertake general outpatient sessions along with supporting well-established multi-disciplinary specialist clinics. The post-holder will support wider activities across the Institute, including service development, research and education.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be accountable to the Clinical Director for Specialist Ambulatory Services, and responsible to the dermatology Service Leads, Clinical Lead for general dermatology, Clinical Lead for medical dermatology, Clinical Lead for skin cancer services and Team Lead for the Immunobullous Service.

Duties and responsibilities:
Clinical roles:
The postholder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of dermatology services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
Immunobullous services (including clinic, MDT, advice and guidance, dermatology day care unit, infusion suite)
Lupus services
Adult general services
Adult secondary care skin cancer services
Inpatient medical dermatology patients (including ward rounds)
Take part in Dermatology Consultant on call rota
Advise on the diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise. MRCP On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT
Clinical Experience Essential
Comprehensive clinical experience in Dermatology Experience at post-CCT level working in tertiary medical dermatology services. Broad based professional training in general medicine.
Desirable
Experience at post-CCT level working in tertiary Immunobullous and lupus services.
Clinical skills Essential
Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team. Good organisation and communication skills. Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications.
Desirable
Extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of complex skin conditions.
Audit management & IT Essential
Evidence of a depth of understanding of audit Understanding of principles of audit. Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management. Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council. Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management.
Desirable
Management training or qualification. Evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services, notably community dermatology services. Experience in clinical guideline development. Appraisal training.
Research, Teaching skill & experience Essential
Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate. Ability to work as part of a team Experience of performance management, developing and motivating staff.

Relevant departmental management/leadership experience at consultant level (e.g. service / specialty lead). Management/leadership experience at Regional or National level.
