Main duties of the job As a Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist, you'll deliver expert care to patients with complex respiratory conditions, supporting their health, wellbeing, and recovery. Assess patients for Long-Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT), perform capillary blood gas sampling, and support appropriate, safe, and cost-effective oxygen prescribing. Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised care plans to optimise patient outcomes, independence, and quality of life. Support the delivery of Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes, including exercise prescription, education, and ongoing patient engagement. Empower patients to effectively self-manage their condition through education, behavioural change techniques, and health promotion initiatives. Manage a diverse caseload, prioritising patient needs and coordinating care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, GPs, consultants, and community services. Communicate complex clinical information clearly and sensitively to patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals, including those receiving palliative care support. Maintain accurate clinical records, contribute to audit, quality improvement, service development activities, and support the training and development of colleagues while ensuring compliance with professional, organisational, and regulatory standards.Person SpecificationEssential
Registration as a Physiotherapist with a degree-level qualification (or equivalent). Strong knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of long-term respiratory conditions. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, carers, and colleagues. Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate clinical records. The ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and adapt to changing service demands. A commitment to continuous professional development, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.Desirable
A COPD Diploma or equivalent specialist respiratory knowledge and experience. A Non-Medical Prescribing qualification, or a willingness to work towards one. Experience working within community healthcare services. Experience delivering teaching, training, or education to patients and healthcare professionals.
