Assistant Manager (Data and Impact) (266270187)
Reporting to the Manager (Strategic Projects & Impact), the Assistant Manager (Data & Impact) supports the University's strategic development, institutional performance, and impact agenda through evidence-based analysis and high-quality decision-support work.
The appointee will analyse institutional, research, and external data to generate clear insights for senior management. The work will include support for strategic projects relating to institutional performance, impact, sustainability, and the University's global profile.
Responsibilities
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of institutional performance, research impact, and related developments in the higher education sector; • Gather, validate, interpret, and synthesise data from institutional systems and external sources to produce accurate, timely, and actionable insights; • Prepare high-quality analytical reports, briefing papers, presentations, and background materials for the Manager, the Director, senior management, and other key University stakeholders; • Support analyses related to the University's performance in global rankings, sustainability assessments, and comparable evaluation frameworks; • Undertake research performance and bibliometric analyses using institutional and external data sources, and translate findings into practical recommendations; • Monitor relevant methodologies, indicators, and sector developments, and assess their implications for the University's performance and strategic positioning; • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of assigned strategic projects and impact-related initiatives, including data collection across faculties, schools, and administrative units; • Contribute to dashboards, tracking tools, and other decision-support materials that help monitor performance and progress against institutional priorities; • Work closely with internal stakeholders to clarify data requirements, ensure data quality, and align analysis with institutional needs; • Lead or coordinate assigned workstreams, ensuring that deliverables are completed to a high standard and within agreed timelines; and • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• A recognised Bachelor's degree in data analytics, statistics, economics, information science, public policy, or a related discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification would be an advantage; • Preferably five years of relevant professional experience in data analysis, institutional research, research analytics, strategic analysis, performance measurement, or a related area. Experience in the higher education sector would be an advantage; • Strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities, with demonstrated experience in interpreting complex quantitative and qualitative information and translating it into clear insights and practical recommendations; • Sound data-handling skills, including experience working with large or multi-source datasets and a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail; • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise, accurate, and persuasive materials for senior-level audiences; • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and work effectively with a range of internal stakeholders; • Strong interpersonal skills, with a proactive, collaborative, and professional approach; • Sound judgement and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment; • Proficiency in data analysis and presentation tools (e.g. Excel; Power BI or similar visualisation tools would be an advantage). Familiarity with research analytics or bibliometric tools (e.g. SciVal, Scopus, InCites, Web of Science, and/or Pure) would be an advantage; • Knowledge of global higher education rankings, sustainability frameworks, or research evaluation would be an advantage, but is not a prerequisite; and • Excellent command of written and spoken English, Putonghua, and Cantonese.
Candidates with less experience or qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of Institutional Research Analyst.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and an interview. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review and mutual agreement.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
