If so, consider joining our innovative Planning team at WSP! for Canada Business. We are looking for a Junior or Intermediate Transportation Planner/Engineer/Data Scientist to join our team. We focus on the development and application of travel demand models to support multi-modal transportation planning and policy projects. We specialize in advanced, activity-based demand modelling techniques to forecast regional population travel patterns and future transportation networks given proposed land uses, transportation infrastructure, and policies. Our proven record for developing industry-leading solutions include the Cities, Municipalities and Regional Travel Demand Model and its implementations. We are trusted advisors and close collaborators with municipal, regional, and provincial governments, transportation agencies, and academia. We are also actively growing Transportation Planning practice that is rooted in our team’s strong data analytics and visualization capabilities. This involves developing bespoke software solutions to help clients analyze large and complex data sources to derive useful insights and answer complex questions. As a member of the GCC Planning team, you will be part of a forward-thinking team that seeks to improve transportation mobility through the delivery of travel demand models and data-driven insights. Depending on the project, work may involve a combination of macro/meso/microscopic modelling, and data science. You will also be part of the broader, multi-disciplinary Transportation Planning and Science practice and will closely collaborate with other planners and engineers on transportation master plans, secondary plans, environmental assessments, policy studies, and other transportation planning projects. What Skills and Qualifications are needed?

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Urban Planning, Computer Science, Economics, or a related discipline, and/or 1-3 years of equivalent work experience • Demonstrable experience with computer programming (preferably Python and/or R) • Strong and proven background in statistics and data analysis • Strong oral and technical writing communication skills • Excellent attention to detail • A great fit working within our close-knit team culture • Knowledge of travel demand model design and application, including experience with activity-based models and platforms • Proficiency with travel demand modelling software (EMME, VISUM, TransCAD, Cube) • Experience in meso/microscopic traffic simulations (Aimsun, VISSIM, Viswalk, DYNAMEQ, Synchro, Sidra, HCS) • Experience with GIS • Experience applying statistical analyses for model estimation and calibration • Experience building and applying machine learning models • Experience with data visualization front-end development using HTML, CSS, and common web libraries and frameworks MICROSIMULATION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Compiling and analyzing transportation data; • Undertaking transportation studies, including complex traffic operations studies including capacity analysis using modeling tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, Aimsun Next; • Conduct traffic impact studies, traffic signal and intersection improvement evaluations, traffic management plan evaluations and safety reviews; • Liaising with team members; • Preparing technical reports; • Other duties as assigned/required.

• Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering from an accredited university; • Excellent attention to detail • Proficiency in traffic simulation modelling (Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, Aimsun Next, SYDRA, ARCADY) and travel demand modelling (EMME, TransCAD); • Skills and experience in traffic engineering; specifically travel demand forecasting, traffic operations analysis, and safety analysis; • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and in a team environment; • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; including the ability to prepare and present complex technical reports, research and analysis; • Ability to develop analysis tools, applications, and macros using computer programming (e.g. VBA, Python, C#, etc.) would be an asset.
