Position Summary
The Yard Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers, containers, materials, and equipment throughout the company’s yard and designated areas. This position supports Shipping, Receiving, Production, and Warehouse operations by ensuring trailers are positioned and available as needed while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient yard
Responsibilities:
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and traffic rules. • Safely operate yard tractors, trucks, forklifts, and other assigned equipment. • Move trailers to and from loading docks, staging areas, parking locations, and designated yard positions. • Coordinate with Shipping, Receiving, Production, and Warehouse personnel regarding trailer movements. • Perform trailer inspections before and after movement and report any damage or safety concerns. • Secure loads properly before transportation. • Maintain accurate records of trailer locations and movements. • Assist with trailer loading/unloading activities as directed. • Ensure trailers are properly secured and positioned at docks. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard. • Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and other employees • Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance issues promptly. • Assist with inventory or material movement when needed. • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE). • Immediately report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, or equipment defects. • Maintain awareness of pedestrians, vehicles, equipment, and changing yard conditions. • Follow designated traffic patterns, speed limits, and parking procedures. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required • Clean and acceptable driving record • Previous commercial driving, manufacturing, transportation or logistics experience preferred. • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices • Forklift certification is preferred or ability to become certified. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Strong communication and organizational skills. • Must be able to work assigned shifts, including overtime, weekends, or holidays as required.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and reach throughout the workday. • Ability to enter and exit trailers and yard equipment safely. • Ability to lift and carry materials as required. • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. • Ability to remain alert and attentive while operating equipment for extended periods.
