Job Title: Embedded Triage EngineerJob DescriptionThe System Triage Contractor Engineer is responsible for evaluating performance data and test results collected from on-road and simulation testing. This role involves creating value-added analysis and trends as feedback to development teams. Besides traditional embedded system triaging, the engineer will employ techniques to investigate simulation data and perform counterfactual analysis. A successful candidate will have experience in public road forensic analysis of robotic disengagements, cross-functional collaboration, and driving initiatives to evolve the system triage and forensics processes. A robust background in large-scale, safety-critical systems and software development processes within complex development systems is essential. Responsibilities • Perform triage, tracking, and metric reporting for system anomalies and test escapes. • Leverage 3D visualization tools to analyze sensor data, uncovering complex software/hardware issues and identifying root causes. • Report on software quality using concepts such as defect ratios and software heatmap viewpoints. • Analyze autonomous vehicle behaviors from public roads and closed-course testing. • Utilize simulation tools to identify new edge-case scenarios and export them into datasets. • Perform counterfactual simulations of selected events, sharing critical analysis with Safety, System V&V, and ML teams. • Collaborate on tooling requirements for efficient triage, root cause analysis, metric reporting, and data visualization. • Maintain the defect management process, optimize defect workflows, and ensure high-quality bug ticketing. • Contribute to a rapid integration and deployment schedule, supporting consistent software stack releases. • Work closely within your team and collaborate cross-functionally to provide a swift, responsive feedback loop to the core development teams. • Track and follow-up on high-priority and blocking defects, ensuring continued progress. • Establish and maintain defect management processes, workflows, and tracking, including the definition of bug ticket quality. Essential Skills • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related technical field. • 3-5+ years of industry experience leading test programs with a focus on system triage, defect tracking, and impact analysis. • Experience with complex embedded systems including ADAS technologies, autonomous driving software architecture, sensors, networking, compute hardware, and control systems. • Experience with software development tools, such as build systems, containers, and source control. • Experience with software for real-time or safety-critical systems. • Experience with machine learned software components. • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to learn in unstructured environments. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving software/hardware infrastructure. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience testing autonomous vehicles, ROS-based robotics systems, or ADAS features. • Configuration management of safety-critical systems, understanding of systems engineering and verification, validation methodologies. • Experience designing and commissioning custom HIL test fixtures. Work EnvironmentThis position requires working in the Ann Arbor office at least a couple of days a week, as needed. The role supports a schedule where trucks are operational during the day, late at night, and on weekends, with shift work to accommodate information flow. The role involves starting up and deploying software at the beginning of the day and may require overnight work with shifts from 1-9 pm and 12 am-8 am. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
