Job Title: Traffic Engineer Job DescriptionThis role offers an opportunity for an experienced traffic engineer to serve as a go-to technical resource for roadway projects across Michigan. Based in one of several metro Detroit or Lansing-area offices, you will lead traffic engineering, analysis, and design efforts, integrating advanced modeling tools with practical field insight to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant transportation solutions. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, support key transportation clients, and contribute to the continued growth of a highly regarded architecture and engineering practice.Responsibilities

• Perform and lead traffic engineering, traffic analysis, and safety studies for Michigan roadway projects. • Develop traffic signal design, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs). • Utilize traffic analysis and modeling software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA, VISSIM, and/or RODEL to evaluate and optimize traffic operations. • Coordinate with roadway designers and project managers to integrate traffic solutions into state and local transportation projects, including those for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). • Review drawings, plans, and deliverables to ensure conformance with Michigan standards, project requirements, and internal quality control procedures. • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, project schedules, and client progress reports to support successful project delivery. • Participate in field reviews to assess existing conditions and support construction phase traffic engineering needs, including review of traffic control and staging. • Assist with business development activities, including proposal preparation and technical support for transportation clients across Michigan. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including roadway, structural, and construction professionals to deliver coordinated and constructible designs. • Stay current with applicable traffic engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure high-quality, innovative solutions. Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. • 5 or more years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering. • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan or the ability to obtain it within 6 months. • Demonstrated experience with traffic analysis and modeling software. • Experience with OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D for transportation design. • Proficiency with traffic software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA, VISSIM, and/or RODEL. • Experience performing traffic engineering, traffic analysis, and safety studies for roadway projects. • Ability to develop signal design, signing and pavement marking plans, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans. • Experience preparing technical specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and client progress reports. • Strong coordination skills to work effectively with roadway designers and project managers. • Attention to detail and familiarity with quality control procedures and Michigan design standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification. • Experience with MDOT and/or Local Agency Federal Aid transportation projects. • GIS experience to support analysis and mapping for transportation projects. • Experience using MicroStation OpenRoads in a production environment. • Background in civil engineering disciplines related to transportation and traffic engineering. • Experience working with public sector and private sector transportation clients. • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, plans, and client correspondence. • Ability to support business development and proposal efforts for transportation projects. Work EnvironmentThe role is full-time, typically 40–45 hours per week, Monday through Friday. You will work 100% in-office from one of the Michigan locations, including metro Detroit-area offices such as Waterford, as well as Lansing or Muskegon. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Waterford, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
