As an Application Technical Lead, you will provide technical governance, architectural direction and engineering leadership across UnitingCare's core mobile and web applications. Working within our Digital & Technology team, you'll be responsible for establishing engineering standards, guiding technical delivery, mentoring developers and ensuring secure, scalable and high-quality application outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the technical direction of key digital platforms supporting our services and strategic initiatives. You will work closely with Product Owners, Cyber Security, developers and business stakeholders to drive engineering excellence while supporting the delivery of innovative technology solutions that make a real difference to the communities we serve. Please note, this position is a Fixed Term Contract through to September 2028, based at 192 Ann Street, Brisbane, with hybrid work arrangements available.
Your part in our UnitingCare team:
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across mobile, web and cloud-based applications.
• Establish and enforce software engineering standards, code review processes and development governance practices.
• Lead solution design decisions across modern application environments including React Native, React.js and microservices architectures.
• Partner with Cyber Security teams to embed secure development practices and shift-left security testing frameworks.
• Oversee application release governance, including Change Advisory Board (CAB) approvals, risk assessments and deployment controls.
• Mentor and coach developers, fostering technical capability, continuous improvement and high-quality engineering outcomes.
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues relating to applications, integrations, performance and environments.
• Support the development and maintenance of Azure DevOps pipelines, deployment automation and release management processes.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with technical and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technology solutions.
• Drive platform improvements, application upgrades and engineering initiatives that enhance performance, reliability and security.
• Coordinate testing activities, quality assurance practices and production release readiness across multiple delivery teams.
• Support incident response and stakeholder communications during critical production issues and release deployments.
What makes a difference for us? We're looking for someone who combines strong technical leadership with exceptional engineering expertise and a passion for building high-performing teams and modern digital solutions. To be successful, you will ideally bring:
• 7+ years' experience in commercial software engineering, application development or solution architecture roles.
• Previous experience leading engineering teams, technical initiatives or development squads.
• Expert-level knowledge of React Native and React.js development environments.
• Strong experience designing scalable application architectures across enterprise environments.
• Experience implementing development governance frameworks, code review standards and best practice engineering methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-based technologies and services within Microsoft Azure.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Strong understanding of modern authentication and authorisation frameworks, including JSON Web Tokens (JWT).
• Experience working collaboratively with Cyber Security, Product Owners and business stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to satisfy the relevant pre-employment probity checks, including a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, Right to Work in Australia verification and qualification checks where applicable.
Highly regarded:
• Experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning and database optimisation.
• Experience supporting enterprise mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms.
• Exposure to microservices architecture, API design and integration patterns.
• Experience with Azure Key Vault, SonarQube and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience implementing QA frameworks, automated testing and release governance processes.
• Previous involvement in Change Advisory Board (CAB) activities and enterprise release management.
• Experience working within large, complex or highly regulated environments.
• Proven ability to mentor developers and build technical capability across teams.
• Experience supporting customer-facing digital products and enterprise application platforms.
• Exposure to healthcare, aged care, community services or similarly complex service-based organisations.
