About us

We are a friendly team led by three GP Partners providing primary care to the population of Witley, Milford and surrounding areas. We have a registered list size of over 11,000 patients across our two premises. Our Witley site has a dispensary and we provide dispensing services to around half of our registered patients. We are a training practice and innovative in a range of areas. There are plans for a new building to bring our current two sites on to one single site.

The Practice Manager (Non-clinically)

Hours: 6 to 8 sessions per week (with flexibility on sessions per week)

Job Summary

The post holder will support the GP partners to manage a busy, interesting clinical caseload spread over the populations covered by the practice ensuring the highest standard of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities

In accordance with the practice rota, the post holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery, clinical triage, telephone and electronic consultations and queries, visiting patients homes, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Responding to medical problems presented by temporary residents

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health management

To assist in the establishment of appropriate systems to manage common chronic medical conditions e.g. asthma, diabetes

Providing counselling and health education

Making appropriate and timely referral of patients for further opinion and treatment

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards including the recording of appropriate information for the Quality and Outcomes Framework and Enhanced Services

Prescribing in accordance with Practice policy and formulary as clinically appropriate

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Timely assessment of incoming electronic and paper correspondence relating to both patient and non-patient information as required. Using the appropriate electronic systems

Attending clinical meetings and other relevant meetings as required by the practice

Participate in training plans of GP registrar, medical and nursing students and other educational placements as required

In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care and any other duties reasonably required by the practice

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines

Identifying risks involved in work activities and actively managing those risks

Using appropriate infection control procedures, particularly relating to needle stick injuries, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way free from hazards

Ensuring all accidents or incidents are reported and investigated and follow up action taken where necessary

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

On GMC GP Register On Medical Performers List Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate) Clear Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check UK driving licence UK work permit (if required)

Desirable

Evidence of continued professional development MRCGP DCH GP Trainer accreditation IUD and contraceptive implant letter of competence

Skills and abilities Essential

Ability to work flexibly Ability to communicate effectively with the full range of patients, staff and external agencies An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality Commitment to personal and professional development of self and others Understanding of the current issues facing primary care

Desirable

Ability to input to practice development planning and delivery

Experience Essential

Recent experience of working in general practice Commitment to and experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary and skill mixed team environment Experience of working to achieve quality targets eg QOF

Desirable

Experience and competence in medicus clinical system Experience in involvement in training of medical students, F2 or GP Registrars Experience in quality improvement activity
