15 hours/week 8:00-13:00 (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays)
This is a 15-hour per week, office-based position, working three mornings per week.
Main duties of the job
Millbarn Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, friendly, and highly organised Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our established and supportive Nursing Team.
This varied role will primarily involve delivering phlebotomy and wound care services to our NHS patients, while also providing support to our on-site Private ENT Consultant. The current workload is approximately 80% NHS and 20% private services, although this may vary according to the needs of the practice.
Based at Beaconsfield Medical Centre, conveniently located just off the M40 with ample on-site parking, Millbarn is a forward-thinking and dynamic practice where every member of the team is valued and respected.
We are looking for an experienced HCA with skills in phlebotomy and wound management, ideally including compression dressings. The successful candidate will be confident managing a varied workload, able to multitask effectively, and committed to delivering excellent patient care. Flexibility to undertake additional ad hoc hours to cover annual leave and sickness absence would be advantageous.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DUTIES
The post holder will hold a mixed Health Care Assistant role with a focus on Phlebotomy, Leg Ulcer Care/Dressings and ENT clinics.
NHS Phlebotomy, Dressing and HCA Clinics
Deliver phlebotomy clinics for NHS patients, ensuring the clinical environment is appropriately prepared, all required equipment and consumables are available, blood request forms are processed accurately, and samples are correctly labelled, packaged and prepared for collection in line with laboratory and infection control protocols. Record all relevant information accurately on the clinical system.Provide wound care and leg ulcer management appointments, including undertaking Doppler assessments, wound cleansing, monitoring wound healing (escalating back to Lead Nurse if required), and applying or reapplying compression therapy and other dressings as clinically indicated, following practice protocols and professional guidelines.Conduct audiology assessments for the Community ENT Service, including welcoming patients, explaining procedures clearly, performing audio tests accurately, addressing patient queries and concerns, and ensuring all results are recorded appropriately and communicated in accordance with service requirements.Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, dignity and confidentiality at all times, ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control, safeguarding, and clinical governance requirements.Support the Nursing Team and wider practice with additional Healthcare Assistant duties as required, including assisting with clinical procedures, health promotion activities, patient observations, and other delegated tasks within the scope of the role and competency framework.Contribute to the smooth running of clinical services by maintaining clinical stock levels, ensuring equipment is clean and fit for purpose, and identifying any issues that may impact patient care or service delivery.Work collaboratively with GPs, Nurses, administrative colleagues and external healthcare professionals to provide an efficient, patient-centred service that reflects the practice's commitment to high-quality care.

Preparing the room and equipment ready for the clinic, ensuring consumables are available and to hand.Preparing the room and equipment ready for the clinic, ensuring consumables are available and to hand.Greeting patients and updating appointment bookEnsure the equipment provided by Millbarn Medical Centre is fit for purpose and ready for the ENT Specialist to use. To report any defects to the ENT Lead.Maintain high standards of infection control throughout the clinic, in accordance with Millbarns Infection Control Policy.Informing Consultants Medical Secretary of any DNAs by emailTo keep up-to-date and act in accordance with the Millbarn Chaperoning PolicyTo tidy the clinic room at the end of the sessionTo ensure adequate stocks of consumables, forms and housekeeping items are maintained notifying the ENT Lead if stocks are running low.To undertake any other tasks which arise during the Specialist ENT clinic that do not include any clinical interaction with the patient can assist with getting on and off the bed, removing clothing such as hats, glasses if required, reassuring the patient throughout the procedure.To report any adverse incidents following the clinic using the Millbarn Medical Centre Incident reporting policy.

Qualifications and Experience Essential and Desirable Competencies * Already has general HCA skills including phlebotomy and dressings, ideally including compression dressings however for the right candidate training could be provided. * Friendly and approachable with an excellent patient facing manner * Spoken and written English to a high standard with the ability to maintain accurate, comprehensive records * Ability to work under pressure * Good presentation of self, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible * Good basic IT skills (EMIS experience desirable). * Effective organisational skills * Reliable
