About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a registered nurse has arisen to join us on the women's unit in York Hospital on a 6 month fixed term contract working 22.5 hours per week.

The women's unit comprises of the early pregnancy assessment unit, the gynaecology assessment unit and a colposcopy and hysteroscopy department. A minor operations clinic and a lower genital tract clinic are also held within the unit and the successful candidate will rotate around these clinics.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills whilst caring for patients who attend the women's unit with early pregnancy complications and other gynaecological conditions.

We are a small friendly team and we are all committed to providing a high standard of patient care in our women's unit.

We are open daily including bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day.

This post is open to qualified Registered Nurses with a full registration with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council and Pre-Registered Nurses due to qualify in 2026.

Main duties of the job

Our Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Assessment Units are an outpatient service where we deliver planned and emergency care. A high proportion of our patients attend with pregnancy complications such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies and molar pregnancies.

We also see people who are experiencing acute gynaecological issues and are needing emergency care.

A high standard of communication and the ability to show empathy is very important both in the assessments units and the out patient clinics due to the nature of the conditions our patients attend with.

A flexible working approach will be needed and this post would ideally suit someone with gynaecological experience or someone with a very keen interest in women's health.

As a band 5 registered nurse you will undertake in house training to enable you to see patients independently in the assessment units. This will include triaging patients, assessing patient's needs, reading scan reports, performing venepuncture, safely and effectively discharging patients with an appropriate action plan in place when required.

Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY at York Hospital. Remote interviews will not be available.
