An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Deputy Head of School for Obstetric and Gynaecology in London.

The Deputy Heads of School for Obstetric and Gynaecologywill ensure that both national standards,determinedby the Royal College of Obstetric and Gynaecology,and alsoguidelines and standardsestablishedwithin London are met.

The Deputy Heads of School will be expected toassistthe Head of School in implementing national andNHS Epolicies in relation to the education and training of resident doctors withinPaediatricson whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.

They will work with the Postgraduate Dean to produce doctors who will strive for the highest standards of patient-centred care and commit themselves to a lifetime of professional development.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Head of School will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College, and guidelines and standards established within Paediatrics are met. Responsibilities will include:

To oversee the Specialty's Regional Training Programme To support compliance with requirements particularlywith regard tothe supervision and support for trainees and learners. Specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns. To manage the work of TrainingProgrammeDirector(s) and other clinical faculty to ensureappropriate systemsfor assessment, rotational management, revalidation, trainee supervision and support and other functions within theSchool. To contribute to workforce planning, ensuring clinical engagement withlocal and national workforce planning processes.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Obstetric and Gynaecology training across the region and who will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Medical with a current licence to practise Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty or professional association relevant to the advertised role's Specialty Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development

Desirable

Higher educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, diploma or Master's in education

Experience Essential

Considerable experience of working with doctors in an educational context Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters, the Gold Guide and educational theory Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges / Faculties, professional bodies related NHS organisations

Desirable

Previous or current appointment as leader in healthcare education
