Job summary

Are you a dedicated RGN/RMN looking for a new challenge within a diverse and rewarding prison healthcare environment?

We are looking for a motivated nurse to join our DART team at HMP Humber on a fixed-term basis for approximately 10 months to provide maternity cover.

Working within secure healthcare offers a varied and interesting role, supporting patients with drug and alcohol related needs as part of a wider multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with colleagues across DART, Primary Care, Mental Health and our partner services to deliver safe, compassionate and effective care.

No two days are the same, and the role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience within substance misuse and prison healthcare, with access to a wide range of training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Are you a dedicated RGN/RMN with an interest in substance misuse and looking for a new challenge within a diverse prison healthcare setting?

As a DART Nurse at HMP Humber, you will undertake substance misuse assessments, deliver nurse-led clinics, administer medication and treatment, provide wound care, triage and emergency response, and make appropriate referrals to other healthcare services.

You will work closely with colleagues across DART, Primary Care, Mental Health and our wider partner services to ensure patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of the DART clinical team, providing safe, effective and compassionate care to patients with drug and alcohol related needs.

Responsibilities will include undertaking substance misuse assessments, supporting patients through treatment pathways, administering prescribed medication and treatments, monitoring patients during treatment, and identifying and responding to changes in their clinical presentation.

You will contribute to nurse-led substance misuse clinics, provide health education and harm reduction advice, support recovery-focused care, and make appropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals and services where required.

The role involves working closely with colleagues across DART, Primary Care, Mental Health and wider partner services to ensure care is coordinated and responsive to individual patient needs.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain high standards of clinical documentation, work in line with relevant policies and clinical guidance, contribute to multidisciplinary working, and support the delivery and continued development of safe, high-quality substance misuse services at HMP Humber.

Education and Training Essential

Registered Nurse Level 1 - Adult /General/Mental Health

Desirable

Mentorship / supervision/teaching / assessing experience/ training

Qualifications Essential

Knowledge of current healthcare issues. Knowledge of clinical governance audit, risk management and quality agenda Working within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team Competent in clinical practice e.g., phlebotomy, ECG monitoring Worked in a complex environment managing deteriorating patients

Desirable

Experience of working within a Health & Justice environment. Experience of health needs assessment/Triage Working to Patient Group Directives Experience in working in general practice Management / Minor Injuries Experience of using SystmOne or willing to undertake training
