Transformation Project Lead - Band 7 - Working within the Transformation and Improvement team
The Transformation Improvement Leads sit within Programme Delivery, delivering project expertise, support, guidance and assurance to the Programme Manager. They provide support across the duration of projects, as required by operational teams, from initial scoping, plan development and engagement through to project completion, documentation and post programme review against Key Performance Indicator improvement and benefits realisation as agreed with the clinical divisions. The post holder will work to develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement within the teams they support, leading through role modelling best practice. Key relationships will need to be developed with clinical divisional operational, management and work stream leads to ensure that programmes are delivered smoothly and to a high standard, with clear objectives and realisable benefits and outcomes.
The successful candidate will demonstrate effective programme and project management skills, with a credible background of successful improvement realisation, ideally in a health care setting. Knowledge of current project management techniques, methodologies, benchmarking and using best practice that can be translated and applied from the NHS and elsewhere is essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Transformation and Improvement Team to ensure that Improvement capability is developed throughout the organisation, through the delivery of a range of education packages.
The post holder will support the Transformation and Improvement Team to ensure that Improvement Huddle methodology is disseminated and successfully implemented across the organisation.
The post holder will support the improvement team to ensure that the NWAFT improvement methodology is an effective platform to share the resulting service improvements across the organisation, working with project leads to ensure that success stories are identified and published.

Provide project scoping and design support to operational teams, including facilitating project diagnostics, vision setting and solution/process design to inform and form part of improvement plans;
Provide cross cover for the other Transformation and Improvement Lead during absence or support during excessive short term workload;
Support with the development of high quality service improvement plans and business cases, informed by robust data and intelligence;
Encourage and work with clinical operational divisions to deliver improvement programmes across the Trust;
Develop, implement and operate good governance processes around delivery, including regular reporting on progress, milestones, KPIs and any remedial actions, escalating as appropriate;
Ensure the Programmes develop and review key performance indicators in relation to goals and outcomes and that project delivery is monitored against these;
Provide guidance on project management to project support staff and others within the organisation as required, acting as a role model for best practice and sharing knowledge;
Provide support to the Project Delivery Groups, including offering constructive challenge where milestones are not being met and facilitating a problem-solving approach around issues as and when they arise;
Facilitate project meetings and workshops where required, supporting decision making, project progress and action completion;
Interpret and analyse complex information and make decisions on a wide range of project issues where there may be more than one course of action;
Develop and maintain a dynamic approach to the delivery of programmes, drawing from a range of sources including Model Hospital, GiRFT, benchmarking, the internal strategic transformation team and best practice elsewhere;
Support business as usual projects where the divisions may need additional resource to accelerate in order to meet required national timelines.
Provide quantitative analysis and project audit as part of the benefit realisation process;
Work across, and with, a range of stakeholders at all levels within the organisation;
Manage own time effectively to create the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Using analytic and modelling techniques, determine improvement forecasts, which are adequately risk assessed with appropriate KPIs

A. Management There is scope within this role to line manage, depending on the experience and aspirations of the post holder and requirements of the team. This includes all aspects of staff development; training, appraisals, 1:1s, support, coaching and dealing with performance and disciplinary issues, in accordance with Trust policies;
Ensuring that direct reports have a clear understanding of their remit and receive appropriate training and support as required.

C. Educational Ensure clear lines of communication and consultation with key stakeholders and project managers/teams, ensuring inter-dependencies are clearly identified and proactive actions taken;
Support divisions and directorates in the delivery of their allocated area of responsibility to ensure delivery of the programme, and agreed results are realised within project timescales;
Develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement within the operational teams supported;
Run internal learning events for operational team members that are interested in building continuous improvement and change capability;
Support operational leadership to build engagement and buy-in to service improvement work;
Share lessons learned, tools and templates with colleagues to build internal improvement capabilities;
Act as an antenna for improvement and innovation within the Trust. Proactively engage with external networks to both share and learn from good practice.
D. Personal Development May The post holder is responsible for delivery and oversight of cumulative improvement projects that equate to a £million value and realisable cost improvement benefit. For example, the role will have responsibility for delivery of 3-4 improvement projects aligned to divisional services that span the Trusts clinical divisions (one basket of services for this role as an example is diagnostic improvement Endoscopy, Imaging, Pathology plus maternity, Urgent and Emergency care which equate to £multi-M)
The post holder will actively participate in developing the basket of initiatives that will form the annual portfolio of improvement initiatives, with the scope of the realisable financial benefits for the Trust.
The post holder is a delegated signatory within the Trusts Scheme of Delegation for the departmental budget to the value of £1000 per item.
E. Service and Policy Development Accountable for maintaining and updating accurate programme and project documentation to an auditable standard;
Maintain a full and accurate audit trail of decisions, actions, outputs, issues, milestone plans, updates and highlight reports;
Review and develop the documentation periodically.
