Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team. We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality, safe and effective nursing care to patients within the clinical area. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care, ensuring that care is delivered in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards and evidence-based practice.
Responsibilities include monitoring patients' conditions, administering medications and treatments, maintaining accurate clinical records, supporting patients and their families, and contributing to the promotion of health and wellbeing. The post holder will be expected to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and carers, escalate concerns appropriately, and participate in safeguarding, infection prevention and control, risk management and clinical governance activities.
The role requires effective prioritisation and organisational skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to continuous professional development. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining a positive learning environment, support service improvement initiatives, and uphold the Trust's values in all aspects of their work. The post holder may be required to work a flexible shift pattern, including weekends, nights and bank holidays, according to service needs.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience of working within a healthcare setting. Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. Experience of multidisciplinary team working. Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice.
Desirable
Experience within the relevant specialty/clinical area. Experience of supervising students, healthcare assistants or junior staff. Participation in quality improvement, audit or service development activities.
Special Skills and Knowledge Essential
Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure. Knowledge of safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and clinical governance. Competent IT skills and experience using electronic patient record systems. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
Knowledge of local and national healthcare policies. Experience of quality improvement methodologies. Teaching, coaching and mentoring skills.
Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). Educated to diploma/degree level in nursing or equivalent qualification.
Desirable
Mentorship/Practice Assessor qualification. Relevant post-registration courses (e.g. IV therapy, acute care, safeguarding). Leadership or management training.
Statutory Registration Essential
Registered Nurse (adult) on part 1 of the NMC register Valid UK NMC PIN. Compliance with NMC revalidation requirements.

Additional specialist professional registrations or qualifications relevant to the role.
