Job summary
Purpose of the role
To provide high-quality, compassionate clinical support to patients within the practice, working closely with the nursing and GP team to deliver a range of clinical procedures, health checks, and health promotion activities. The Healthcare Assistant plays a key role in helping Penrose Health deliver outstanding, patient-first primary care.
Main duties of the job
Providing face-to-face clinical support to patients within the practiceCarrying out core HCA clinical duties including blood pressure checks, ECGs, phlebotomy, wound care, weight management, and NHS health checksAdministering B12, shingles, pneumococcal and flu injections/vaccinationsChaperoning patients in support of the nursing and GP teamAssisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and wellbeingCarrying out new patient health checks and other health screeningPerforming urinalysis and preparing specimensUndertaking long-term condition reviews where appropriateGathering lifestyle data from patientsMonitoring and recording vaccine and cold chain storageMaintaining accurate, up-to-date clinical recordsSupporting infection control practices and equipment managementPromoting health and wellbeing, and supporting patient educationManaging clinical stock control, including clearing and restocking consultation roomsContributing to a positive, proactive team culture

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) Completed Care Certificate
Desirable
Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a primary care or community setting.
Skills Essential
Competence in core HCA duties (phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, urinalysis, injections); strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills; analytical skills to support successful consultations
Desirable
Experience using EMIS clinical system
Behaviours Essential
Kind, respectful and professional approach to patient care; flexible, reliable, team player; committed to continuous learning; able to work well within a close-knit team of clinicians and non-clinicians
