Job summary
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work under the supervision of our nursing team and GPs to provide a range of clinical and administrative duties that contribute to the efficient running of the practice.
The successful candidate will be caring, organised, and able to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The Healthcare Assistant supports the nursing and clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care. Key duties include undertaking routine clinical observations such as blood pressure, pulse, height, weight and BMI measurements; performing venepuncture, ECGs (following appropriate training and competency assessment); assisting with wound care and dressings; preparing and maintaining clinical rooms and equipment; processing specimens; supporting vaccination and screening programmes; maintaining accurate patient records; and providing a caring, professional service to patients. The HCA also ensures compliance with infection prevention and control procedures, maintains stock levels, and works as part of the multidisciplinary team to promote patient health and wellbeing.

Person SpecificationEssential CriteriaExperience of working in a healthcare environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Basic IT skills and experience of electronic record systems. Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection. Ability to prioritise workload and work independently when appropriate.Desirable CriteriaCare Certificate. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent). Experience in primary care/general practice. Competency in venepuncture, ECG recording. Knowledge of chronic disease management and health promotion.Working ConditionsWorking within a busy GP practice environment. Contact with patients presenting with a variety of health conditions. Qualifications Essential
GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a healthcare setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Caring, compassionate, and professional approach to patient care. Good IT and administrative skills. Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements .
Desirable
Experience working within General Practice or Primary Care. Venepuncture qualification and experience. ECG competency. Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care. Knowledge of EMIS Web or SystmOne.
