Looking for a new challenge? This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and forward-thinking Band 6 Charge Nurse to join our Paediatric Emergency Department team.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and highly motivated individual who can demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, and clinical skills, supported by previous experience within a paediatric emergency care setting. The successful candidate will work collaboratively alongside the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) and Neptune Paediatric Ward. The PAU is a 7-bedded unit, currently co-located within Neptune Ward, which comprises 16 inpatient beds.
There is an exciting development plan within the footprint for the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU), with a purpose-built area to enable PAU services to be co-located alongside the Paediatric Emergency Department which is set to open in Autumn 2026. This innovative design will enhance patient flow, improve access to care, and strengthen collaborative working across services.
Main duties of the job
If successful, you will be expected to demonstrate the ability to effectively manage the paediatric emergency department (ED) environment and patient care during a shift, including the coordination of staff and resources.
You will support your colleagues and work alongside the Nurse in Charge to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, holistic care, while maintaining effective patient flow. This will require clear communication and close collaboration with other areas across the paediatric directorate.
You will uphold professional and clinical standards at all times, acting as a positive role model and supporting the development of others within the team.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
RSCN/RN (child) with current NMC registration MIPS or equivalent mentoring qualification
Desirable
Current APLS/EPLS or willingness to undertake Paediatric Emergency Care course Trauma Course
Experience Essential
Demonstrable qualified nursing experience Involvement in child protection cases.
Desirable
CVC Access Plastering//Wound closure/Cannulation & Phlebotomy Experience/ awareness of staff management Experience in an emergency care setting
