About this role

Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a competent and enthusiastic Technical Instructor to join our friendly, well-established Occupational Therapy Service based at Berwick Infirmary. This is a hands-on support role within occupational therapy. You would work closely with qualified OTs, see patients in different settings, help assess and solve everyday functional problems, provide and fit equipment, support rehabilitation activities, and help patients become safer and more independent.

The role requires good communication, practical skills, teamwork, safe working practices and the ability to work independently while knowing when to seek advice. This role also involves weekend working and supporting other sites in community hospitals acute settings as required.

Service hours are currently 08:30-16:30 Monday - Friday within Berwick Infirmary. There is an expectation of weekend working across other Northumbria Healthcare sites. Contractual hours are between 08:00-20:00 and this may be implemented in the future.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience

NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or demonstrable experience within health, social care and education settings IT skills required for role e.g basic use of MS packages and data base management Knowledge of OT techniques and /or activities relevant to client group; acquired through training, experience in an OT setting to NVQ. A basic understanding of the OT profession and its various core skills. Ability to work independently under the direction of an OT. Ability to work autonomously with individuals/groups within competency framework . Maintain/ensure patient safety and confidentiality . Ability to undertake non-complex, basic OT checks and interventions under the direction of the Occupational Therapists. Demonstrate a commitment to CPD. Willingness to work flexibly. Ability to work single handed with individuals/groups within a supportive environment. Demonstrate effective listening and observational skills and ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrates effective organisational, time management. Must be able to demonstrate the English language proficiency level required for this post.

Job description Job responsibilities

Working under the direction of Occupational Therapists to implement planned interventions within the hospitals or community settings. This may include supporting with basic environmental, checks prescription of equipment, as deemed within competence, or practice of specific therapeutic interventions / techniques all under the direct instruction of an Occupational Therapist. The post holder will assist therapists to carry out administrative duties associated with the delivery of services.

Qualifications Essential

NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or demonstrable experience within health, social care and education settings

Other requirements Essential

It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.

Experience and knowledge Essential

Knowledge of OT techniques and /or activities relevant to client group; acquired through training, experience in an OT setting to NVQ.
