About this role

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is one of three Faculties that make up the University of Liverpool, the others being Health & Life Sciences and Humanities & Social Sciences.

The Faculty has four schools:

School of Electrical Engineering & Electronics and Computer Science School of Engineering School of Environmental Sciences School of Physical Sciences

The Materials Innovation Factory The Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) is a flagship strategic research facility built on world-class knowledge leadership in Materials Chemistry, Lab Automation and Digital Chemistry, with the vision to transform how Chemistry is done and accelerate material discovery.

The Director will provide commercial leadership to drive our reputation externally with high profile thought leadership and networking to ensure our materials work is front of mind for industry and other potential funders. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating activity to grow industry income, strengthen strategic partnerships, and maximise the commercial and operational value of key research platforms, laboratories, technologies, and capital capabilities. Working closely with lead researchers, Research, Partnerships and Innovation colleagues, and relevant professional services teams, the postholder will support the delivery of strategic initiatives including AIM-HI and the LIPF, ensuring that industry engagement is translated into sustainable income, measurable outcomes, and long-term partnership value.

You will provide strategic leadership, deploying your expertise on commercial, industry collaboration, academic and partnerships strategy to maximise the income and reputation of our materials research. You will interface with a range of senior academics to secure funding to support the development and translation of their research and ensure alignment between academic capabilities and needs of the commercial and regional partners. Working within established University Partnership and Enterprise strategies and collaboratively with existing institutional teams responsible for Partnerships and Enterprise will be a crucial part of this role.
