About this role

Florida State University London seeks an instructor to teach an undergraduate course in applied statistics on its Bloomsbury campus for the Spring 2027 semester (Thursday, 7 January to Thursday, 22 April 2027). All teaching is done face-to-face; classes begin on Monday, 11 January. Classes meet once a week in a 3-hour block, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Class size is typically 10 to 20 students.

STA2122 Introduction to Applied Statistics is a 3-credit course within the Statistics Department aimed at humanities and social science majors with ‘a minimal background in mathematics.’ To enrol, students must have done basic college algebra, but many will not have any advanced maths. Student taking the class will have widely varying abilities with statistics. The goal of the instructor is to pitch the lessons so that all students who show effort can progress, complete assignments, and pass the course.

The course covers normal distributions, sampling variation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, one-way and two-way analysis of variance, correlation, simple and multiple regression, contingency tables and chi-square tests, and non-parametric statistics.

The ideal candidate will have or be working on a PhD in statistics (or a relevant field) and have some undergraduate teaching experience. Acquaintance with US undergraduate education is desirable. More information about our program can be found at www.international.fsu.edu/london

To be considered, a candidate must have existing, unrestricted right to work in the UK.

The remuneration will be £3,900 per course for class sessions, associated preparation, and marking.

To apply for the position, please send a CV and covering letter to Dr Lisa Bowers Isaacson via the 'Apply' button above (E: [email protected]).

Closing date: 6 October 2026. Interviews will be arranged on Zoom for short-listed candidates. For further information email [email protected].
