About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Research Technician to join Prof Rakesh Heer’s lab in Imperial College London, Hammersmith Hospital. This role is funded by Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK).

The TRANSFORM Discovery & National Prostate Cancer Bio-Digital Twin is part of the national prostate screening study TRANSFORM, funded by PCUK and NIHR. We will capture digital data & undertake biospecimen capture from the TRANSFORM trial for:

biomarker testing at scale and pace, translational & discovery science and the simulation of in silico trials to inform clinical care.

The study plans to recruit up to 300,000 men and to capture associated digital & biological measures that will support cutting edge studies that will transform outcomes for men with prostate cancer across the world. The post-holder will directly contribute to the collection, processing, storage and dispatch of tissue and blood samples. Through collaboration with commercial and academic partners, this will generate new studies spanning discovery, translational and clinical biology towards the development of new treatments, diagnostics and technologies, that benefit patients and communities affected by prostate cancer across the UK and internationally

What you would be doing

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of technicians, clinical trial staff, researchers & clinicians that will contribute to the collection, processing, storage and analysis of digital data. The post involves a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research as well as daily interactions with other members of the lab, other allied scientists within Imperial College and elsewhere, as appropriate.

What we are looking for

Experience in handling human tissue (including blood, urine, saliva, stool swabs & tissue from surgery). You must have excellent verbal & written communication skills as well as basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology, & histopathology techniques. You must also be able to develop and apply new concepts, work with minimal supervision and have a creative approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will have the passion and drive to tackle and overcome scientific problems and have superb organisational skills. Flexibility to adapt to a variable work schedule is essential.

This is a full-time fixed term position available with a start date in November 2026.

Appointments will usually be made at the start of the salary scale dependent on experience.
