Are you ready to put your engineering education to work? Laclede Electric Cooperative is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Engineering Intern to join our team. This is an opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge to projects that help deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to the communities we serve.

As an Engineering Intern, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and technical staff who will mentor you as you contribute to the planning, design, and improvement of our electric distribution system. You'll gain hands-on experience in electric utility engineering while seeing projects move from concept through construction and operation. Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred; Civil, Mechanical, or other engineering disciplines with an interest in electric utility systems are encouraged to apply.

• Interest in power systems, electric utility operations, or infrastructure design.

• Completed coursework in engineering fundamentals.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Interest in learning electrical distribution system design, construction, operation, and maintenance.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

What You'll Do & Learn

Working alongside our Engineering team, you’ll have opportunities to:

• Assist with overhead and underground electric distribution design.

• Participate in feeder planning, voltage analysis, protection coordination, and system improvement projects.

• Research engineering standards and equipment specifications.

• Gain exposure to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and other technologies used to plan, design, monitor, and operate an electric distribution system.

• Participate in field staking, design verification, and construction inspections.

• Perform engineering calculations and technical analysis using utility engineering software.

• Collaborate with engineering personnel and other departments to solve real-world challenges.

• Support engineering projects from initial concept through construction.

• Assist with project documentation and material specifications.

• Develop technical communication skills by preparing drawings, reports, and engineering documentation.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute ideas to enhance engineering practices.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to occasionally walk, bend, stoop, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to walk across uneven terrain, including ditches, fields, and rights-of-way during field visits.

• Ability to use computers and other office equipment for extended periods.

• Vision sufficient for reading plans, computer work, and field observations.

• Successful completion of a company-required physical exam and drug screening.

Working Conditions
