About this role

We at BranchPattern are seeking two motivated and detail-oriented Building Science Summer Interns to join our Analytics and Volume Program team for Summer 2027. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in the fast-growing field of building science, with a focus on green building consulting, energy analytics, and building commissioning. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and consultants to assist in evaluating building performance, optimizing energy efficiency, and implementing sustainable design practices.

Analytics Intern Key Responsibilities:

• Learn the basics of energy modeling, including how building systems interact to use energy, how to build out geometry and engineering systems in energy modeling software, and how to analyze model results.

• Learn how existing buildings use energy and how to evaluate an existing building's energy use, buildings systems, and occupancy to make energy efficiency-related recommendations. This includes on-site visits to buildings to understand how they are being utilized.

• Assist with building decarbonization projects, gaining an understanding of energy efficiency measures, electrification, energy storage systems, renewable energy, and on-site measurement and verification.

• Learn the basics of embodied carbon in a building's enclosure, structure, and systems. Gain an understanding of trade-offs between embodied and operational carbon at the building level.

Volume Program Intern Key Responsibilities:

• Support LEED project reviews by assisting with documentation checks, data entry, and quality assurance for high‑volume certification projects.

• Collaborate with sustainability teams and work alongside project managers and analysts to streamline processes and maintain consistency across portfolios.

• Develop operational tools to help refine templates, tracking systems, and workflow improvements that support scalable certification.

• Gain hands‑on LEED experience and build practical knowledge in green building standards, documentation pathways, and real‑world sustainability operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Architecture.

• Strong interest in building science, consulting, and sustainability.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a consulting environment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);

Desired Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, lighting, and envelope design.

• Familiarity with building performance simulation tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, IESVE, or similar) is a plus.

• Experience with AutoCAD or Revit is a plus.
