About this role
Intermediate Safety Coordinator
Full-time | Year-Round | Blackfalds, AB
Position Summary
This is not a compliance-check role. Safety at Eagle Builders is about holding the standard – every time – while earning the trust to influence it.
We’re looking for someone who is confident and direct, but just as important, someone who can build relationships across the floor. This role requires more than identifying problems; it requires the ability to connect with people, gain buy-in, and drive real behaviour change.
You won’t be successful in this role by standing on the outside. You’ll succeed in being present, respected, and working alongside crews to make safety practical, understood, and consistently followed.
What You’ll Do
• Build strong, day-to-day relationships with crews, supervisors, and sub-trades
• Be present on the floor – observing, engaging and coaching in real time
• Provide practical safety guidance to supervisors and employees when addressing hazards or changing work conditions
• Address unsafe acts and conditions directly while reinforcing expectations and gaining employee buy-in
• Conduct inspections and independently follow identified concerns through to resolution
• Lead incident and near-miss investigations, identify contributing factors, and recommend meaningful corrective actions
• Deliver safety meetings, orientations, and training that are practical, relevant, and engaging
• Interpret and apply occupational health and safety legislation, company policies and industry requirements
• Track and analyze safety data to identify recurring risks, emerging trends and opportunities for improvement
• Support internal audits, program reviews, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Monitor corrective actions to ensure they are completed effectively and within established expectations
• Provide support and guidance to less-experienced safety team members when required
What We Are Looking For
• Relationship builder – earns trust and credibility with crews at all levels
• Confident and approachable – able to step in when needed, without creating resistance
• Influential communicator – can gain buy-in and drive behaviour change, not just enforce rules
• Present and engaged – spends time on the floor, not just behind a desk
• Observant and proactive – identifies risks early and acts before issues escalate
• Action-oriented – follows issues through to resolution
• Detail focused – understands how small gaps can lead to bigger incidents
Requirements
• Successful interview candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment assessment
• 3+ years of progressive health and safety experience
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Available to work Monday – Friday 6:30am – 5:00pm
• Minimum 40 hours per week, must be flexible, willing to work overtime and the occasional Saturday
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR
• Working knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation, WHMIS, WCB requirements, and related standards
• Experience independently conducting workplace inspections and incident investigations
• Demonstrated ability to recommend, document, and follow up on corrective actions
• Experience writing professional reports, procedures, or health and safety policies
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Physically capable of working in an active manufacturing and construction environment
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
• Outstanding critical thinking skills
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
Assets
• NCSO designation or meaningful progress toward completion
• Experience in precast concrete, construction, manufacturing, or industrial operations
• Experience supporting safety audits or formal safety management systems
• Experience analyzing incident and inspection data to identify trends
• WHMIS Train-the-Trainer certification
• Experience using SiteDocs or comparable safety management software
What Eagle Builders Offers
• Competitive wages based on experience, with regular evaluations
• 6% vacation pay, health coverage, and wellness support
• Sundays off and a culture that values time with family
• Clothing program, meal program, fuel discounts, and employee events
• Clear training roadmaps and opportunities for growth
This role isn’t about standing on the sidelines – it’s about earning respect on the floor and using to drive real change.
