Job Summary The Anatomic Pathology Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight, quality assurance, and staff supervision of the Anatomic Pathology laboratory, including Histology, Cytology, Grossing, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), and related subspecialty areas as applicable. This role ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, supports high-quality diagnostic services, and fosters a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Supervisor serves as a technical and leadership resource, balancing hands-on expertise with administrative and people-management responsibilities to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient pathology services Job Responsibilities 1 Supervise daily operations of the Anatomic Pathology laboratory, ensuring appropriate staffing, workflow efficiency, and turnaround time targets are met Oversee technical processes including specimen accessioning, gross examination support, histology processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, special stains, IHC, and cytology preparation (as applicable) Ensure proper specimen handling, identification, labeling, fixation, storage, and disposal in compliance with policies and regulations Troubleshoot technical, workflow, and equipment issues; escalate complex concerns as appropriate Coordinate workload distribution and prioritize cases to meet clinical and diagnostic needs Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements. Participate in inspections, audits, and proficiency testing; prepare documentation and implement corrective actions as needed Monitor quality indicators, error rates, and turnaround times, lead root cause analysis and quality improvement initiatives Job Responsibilities 2 Maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and safety protocols Ensure adherence to biosafety, chemical safety, and infection control standards Supervise, mentor, and support histotechnologists, cytotechnologists, technicians, and support staff Coordinate staff scheduling, timekeeping, and coverage to meet operational needs Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, competency assessment, and performance evaluations Provide coaching, feedback, and corrective action when necessary, in collaboration with management and HR Serve as a liaison between laboratory staff, pathologists, laboratory leadership, and clinical teams Support pathologists with technical consultation and workflow coordination Additional Responsibilities 3 Job Knowledge & Skills Expert knowledge of anatomic pathology laboratory practices and workflows Strong leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills Excellent organizational and time-management abilities Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement quality improvements Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-complexity environment Commitment to patient safety, quality, and ethical practice Job Experience Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in Anatomic Pathology Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred or required, depending on organization) Minimum 1 year of experience in GCC (preferred).
