MAJOR FUNCTION Semi-skilled technical work within a comprehensive environmental mosquito control program performing pesticide applications using Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck mounted sprayer. Other mosquito control work assignments may be available during day operations as needed. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES This is a Seasonal position, and work hours may vary. ULV Night Spray Missions · Operation of mosquito spraying equipment at night in assigned zones. · Responsible for making sound judgement while operating spray equipment. · Read and implement spray assignments for effective and efficient use of pesticide. · Inspections of ULV equipment prior and post treatment. Day Operations · Placement and collection of mosquito traps. · Assisting with outreach events. · Mosquito sample processing as assigned. · Assisting with special project surveillance. · Office/equipment maintenance. Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS · Knowledge of Florida driving and safety requirements in all weather conditions and at times of the day. · Must be able to work independently and operate county vehicle. · Must be able to read, write, understand and converse clearly in the English language · Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions (i.e.: sun, rain, cold, swamp, ditches, and dirt). · Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds occasionally, and/or 25-30 pounds frequently. · Must be able to drive for long periods of time and enter and exit the vehicle multiple times without issue. · Ability to follow written and oral detailed instructions and apply pesticides in accordance with instructions. · Ability to complete reports and record data. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS · Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. · Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a Florida driver’s license at the time of employment. · Must be able to obtain Public Health Pest Control License within one (1) year of employment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS · Complete Polk County Defensive Driving Course within the first three (3) months of employment · May work evenings or days/or irregular hours. All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
