About this role
What’s the role?
Join a team focused on improving how engineers build, test and deliver software across Westpac. As Chief Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership for strategic developer platforms including GitHub Enterprise, Artifactory and CI/CD tooling, helping to create secure, scalable and highly automated software delivery capabilities. You'll define engineering standards, shape platform strategy, drive automation and developer experience improvements, and work closely with engineering, architecture, security and risk teams to enable consistent and reliable software delivery at scale. This is a leadership role that combines hands-on technical expertise with mentoring, technical direction and platform governance.
What do I need?
• Deep experience leading enterprise-scale DevOps, CI/CD or developer platform capabilities, with strong expertise in GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Artifactory and modern deployment tooling. • Experience defining platform strategy, engineering standards and paved-road solutions that improve developer experience while maintaining security and governance requirements. • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and platform automation, ideally using Terraform, OpenTofu, APIs and cloud-native automation practices. • Experience working with container platforms and modern application delivery technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes and Helm. • Strong software engineering and automation skills, including Python and platform integration development. • Ability to design and operate secure, scalable and highly available developer platforms across large enterprise environments. • Experience embedding automated testing, quality controls and security practices into software delivery pipelines. • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across engineering, architecture, security and risk teams to drive outcomes. • Proven technical leadership capability, including mentoring engineers, influencing engineering practices and shaping long-term platform direction. • Passion for continuous improvement, modern engineering practices and creating simple, low-friction development experiences that help teams deliver software faster and more safely.
