Project Overview:
Louisiana LNG is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project includes a mid-scale, mixed-refrigerant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on the west side of the Calcasieu River. There are five identical process plants. Each process plant consists of one gas pre-treatment unit, one condensate stabilization unit, and four Chart heavy hydrocarbon (HHC) removal and liquefaction groups. The facility will include associated utilities, refrigerant storage, three 235,000m3 full-containment LNG storage tanks, and three marine berths.
Job Summary:
The Commercial Specialist supports Commercial Management in the administration of the project's commercial management processes, helping to identify, assess, track, and report matters that may affect cost recovery, contract compliance, or commercial exposure. The role provides day-to-day support across commercial issue management, including subcontractor and supplier claims, owner claims, backcharges, Agreement Change Notices, trends, notices, entitlement issues, and other commercial matters.
Working across disciplines, the Commercial Specialist helps ensure issues are captured early, assigned to the appropriate owner, supported by the right documentation, and progressed toward resolution or escalation. The role maintains visibility of key risks, deadlines, and action items throughout the project lifecycle, and is expected to work with a degree of independence within the priorities and direction set by Commercial Management. #LI-CS1
Major Responsibilities:
Maintain the project's commercial registers for claims, disputes, backcharges, notices, trends, and unresolved matters, and identify emerging issues that may result in cost growth, schedule impact, unrecovered cost, commercial exposure, or dispute risk. Track owner, subcontractor, supplier, and internal commercial claims from identification through closeout, and support administration of subcontractor and supplier backcharges in accordance with project and corporate procedures. Review and analyse contracts, change orders, project documentation, cost impacts, delays, and entitlement issues, and provide a reasoned assessment to support the project's position. Build the evidential record for each issue, assembling correspondence, chronologies, and supporting documents, and identifying and closing documentation gaps. Prepare clear, defensible claim narratives, briefing materials, and negotiation support, working with Legal and project teams. Assess change-related documents for commercial impact, entitlement issues, scope growth, and risk exposure, and drive commercial review comments through to disposition. Maintain the notice and contractual deadline trackers, flagging upcoming notice requirements and key dates in time for the project to act on them. Produce reports, dashboards, and executive-level summaries giving leadership a current view of the project's commercial position, and pursue overdue actions directly with responsible functions. Coordinate commercial issue reviews, confirming ownership of actions and deadlines, and support periodic reviews with Project Controls so that commercial matters are reflected in forecast, trend, and change management processes.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Finance, Law, or a related field, or equivalent experience combined with a relevant professional qualification or certification. Typically 8-12 years of relevant industry experience. Experience on large capital, EPC, industrial, LNG, energy, or infrastructure projects preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Experience in contract administration, commercial management, claims administration, contract compliance, subcontracts, or project controls, with a track record of managing issues independently. Practical understanding of how contract language operates, including compliance, documentation, change orders, claims, and project risk. Sound judgement, with the ability to assess entitlement, weigh competing positions, and reach a defensible conclusion, together with strong attention to detail. Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple issues, priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders, and maintain the registers, trackers, and reports supporting them. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare structured narratives and executive-level summaries and present them to project leadership. Strong Microsoft 365 capability, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to work effectively across project disciplines and organisational levels, including in hybrid or distributed team environments, with strong follow-through in obtaining input from others. Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
