Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS FT is looking to appoint trainee Clinical Coders to help us capture the clinical activity we undertake at the hospital. This will support a variety of processes within the Trust and underpins the income of the Trust. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential. The role requires long periods of VDU use

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours) based at Clatterbridge Hospital, with opportunity for hybrid working and flexibility with working times to support our employees with a healthy work/life balance.

Training takes around two years and consists of a Clinical Coding Standards Course, speciality workshops and courses and a period of supervised coding.

Main duties of the job

Abstract and analyse clinical information from a wide variety of sources both paper and electronic formats. Assign diagnostic and procedural codes to episodes of care in a timely and accurate manner. Input codes into encoding software ensuring accuracy at all times. Convey complex coding rules to a wide variety of staff within the organisation e.g.clinicians, managers and information staff and with staff outside the Trust. Identify and retrieve missing information in order to achieve departmental and Trust targets on completeness of coding.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training Essential

Must have A-level or equivalent in a Biology based subject Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook

Desirable

Must have completed a UK Clinical Coding Foundation/Standards Course Educated to degree level Keyboard skills to ECDL level or equivalent
