About this role

Job summary Within this role, you will develop the ability to prioritise your workload effectively while building strong organisational skills and adaptability in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The position encompasses a broad range of administrative responsibilities that are essential to the smooth delivery of Optometry services.

General administrative responsibilities will also involve communicating with patients both over the phone and face to face. This may include booking and rearranging appointments, responding to enquiries, and providing a professional, courteous service that reflects the Trusts commitment to high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job This post is a permanent part-time position of 15 hours per week and consists of providing administrative support to our optometrists and dispensing opticians who deliver adult refraction clinics, contact lenses clinics and low vision assessments that are primarily held at our eye clinic at St James Hospital within the Gledhow Wing, Leeds.

This role is ideal for individuals looking to begin or develop a career in administration within the NHS. Gaining experience in this department will provide the successful candidate with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, supporting future progression opportunities within the Trust. A comprehensive induction programme and structured training will be provided, alongside opportunities for ongoing professional development within a supportive team environment.

Taking payments for optical supplies and contact lenses.

The post holder will receive and check patient information within departmental guidelines, including entering information on to the appropriate IT system, and retrieve information as and when required. To process patient and other documentation. To be the first point of contact for patients and other visitors to the department. To provide an administrative/clerical service to the department/team. To support the delivery of a high standard of service to patients, staff and Trust departments.
