Duration - 12 months fixed term

Base Hospital -All posts are regarded as being Trust wide

The base Hospital will be Southmead Hospital

Please note that the base could change as a consequence of clinical requirements.

Main duties of the job

The renal transplant team perform an average of 150 transplants a year, including 20 paediatric recipients.

We have an active live donor program and provide dialysis access to a large cohort of patients with end-stage renal disease.

Several of our surgeons also provide endocrine and hernia surgery, widening the scope of your clinical experience.

You will also be part of the emergency general surgical team on an on-call rota, working in admissions, emergency clinic and emergency theatre.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Able to assess, resuscitate and stabilise acutely sick patients. Good clinical judgement Understand Audit/governance processes

Desirable

Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD or MSc). Proven track record in research. Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals. Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.

Skills and Abilities Essential

Ability to organise and prioritise workload Good communication skills Honesty and reliability Ability to work effectively within an MDT environment Flexibility Critical approach to work Demonstrates initiative Ability to gain confidence of both staff and patients Willing to undertake additional clinical duties when necessary, including cover for colleagues on leave

Training in laparoscopic surgery

Qualifications and Training Essential

Registered with GMC (UK)

Desirable

Experience in audit project and written up

Additional and Aptitudes Essential

IT skills on all Microsoft packages Fluent English speaker
