Job summary
We have a vacancy for a Permanent Band 4 Associate Practitioner to join our friendly Microbiology Team at Hull Royal Infirmary. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team, who we expect will be able to help us provide an efficient, high quality Microbiology Diagnostic Service.

The successful candidate will be able to be flexible in order to meet the service needs.
Interviews for this post will be held face to face with no remote option available.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will perform a range of complex tasks in closely defined areas comparable with a Biomedical Scientist. This will include reception duties (sorting patient samples and entering requests), performing manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations and the reporting of results (verbal and electronically).
The post holder will use their individual judgment to make decisions that will have an impact on the provision of accurate and timely reports within available resources.
The post holder will work closely with other healthcare professionals and be expected to support, advise and train less experienced staff such as trainees, students and Band 2 MLAs, ensuring that personal proficiency and competency are maintained.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Education equivalent to AS Level or higher OR NVQ Level 2 in Laboratory sciences OR o2 years laboratory experience plus a recognised qualification in Maths and English Language, or Science and Humanities as alternative.
Desirable
NVQ level 3 in Laboratory sciences or equivalent foundation degree in a relevant subject IBMS Certificate of Achievement Parts 1 and 2
Experience and knowledge Essential
Previous laboratory experience in Microbiology Basic knowledge of laboratory health & safety
Aptitude and Personal Qualities Essential
A flexible nature able to cope with changing demands of the service. Must be able to communicate with other professionals at all levels. Able to work extended days weekends and Bank Holidays Responsible and mature attitude. Able to work under pressure.
