About this role

Job summary

Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Senior Healthcare Support Workers (Band 3) to join our Adult Orthopaedic Wards within Surrey Surgical Centre.

The post is primarily based at Ashford Hospital's Elective Centre, with a requirement to work across both Ashford Hospital and St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey, depending on service needs.

This is a full-time position requiring flexibility to work long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Applicants must demonstrate:

o At least 6 months' recent NHS experience as a Healthcare Support Worker.o Completion of the Care Certificate within an NHS setting.

Only candidates meeting these essential criteria will be considered.

Successful candidates will also have:

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.o Good IT skills.o The right to work in the UK.o A caring, compassionate and patient-centred approach.

Main duties of the job

Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of providing direct patient-centred care, supporting the Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates as well as the wider Multi-Disciplinary Teams.

The role is varied, equally challenging and rewarding, and offers the opportunity to really make a difference to our patients' experience. The role includes:

Providing direct patient care including meeting hygiene, continence, nutrition, pressure area care and mobility needs. Taking and recording patients' vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient's condition Providing one-to-one observation for patients who present a high risk of harm and vulnerable patients Undertaking training and competencies related to the role such as undertaking ECGs, Venepuncture and cannulation, and other competencies related to the specific department. Escorting patients to different departments such as X-ray. Keeping the department and equipment clean, tidy and restocking equipment. Training and supporting new and junior team members.

Qualifications Essential

Functional level of English and Math Care Certificate in Acute Care

Desirable

Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification

Experience Essential

Previous experience working as a health care support worker within the NHS for a minimum of six months Working as part of a team

Desirable

Previous experience training and supporting new staff

Skills Essential

Effective communication IT skills Caring and Compassionate Empathy and understanding Ability to provide excellent patient centred care

Desirable

Extended skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and undertaking ECGs
