Job summary Assistant Ward Manager - Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Clover Ward (Band 6)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Ward Manager to join Clover Ward, our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, providing specialist inpatient care for people experiencing acute and complex mental health needs.
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse to support the Ward Manager in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, support staff development and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for service users.
You will contribute to clinical decision-making, provide supervision and support to the multidisciplinary team, and play a key role in service improvement, quality assurance and governance activities. Responsibilities include supporting safer staffing, roster management, audits, incident learning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with colleagues, carers and partner organisations, you will help develop effective care pathways that support recovery and positive patient outcomes. You will be passionate about developing others, improving services and ensuring care is delivered in line with Trust values.

Main duties of the job
Deliver and maintain high standards of care within the PICU, promoting a safe, therapeutic and recovery-focused environment. Support the Ward Manager with operational management, workforce planning and staff development. Provide clinical leadership and specialist knowledge to the multidisciplinary team in the care of patients with complex mental health needs. Ensure compliance with professional, legal and quality standards, including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Trust policies. Lead on risk assessment, risk management, care planning and safe medicines management. Support training, supervision and professional development of staff. Contribute to audits, quality improvement initiatives, incident learning and service development. Provide visible leadership, supporting governance, performance and continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with patients, carers and partner agencies to support recovery and effective care pathways. Maintain accurate clinical records and promote high standards of documentation. Qualifications Essential
RMN Current Registration on part 3 or part 13 of NMC Register
Desirable
Teaching (clinical practice) qualification/certificate or equivalent experience
Experience Essential
Assessment, planning, formulation, and evaluation of patient's psychological difficulties. Experience of working with people with Mental Health Needs.
Desirable
Involvement with innovation in Nursing Practice Experience of doing audits A minimum of 2yrs post qualification working in a mental health inpatient setting.
