Job purpose/summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management of the General Practice Assistant Team within the Nursing Team at Health and Beyond.
The post holder will champion the NHS Health Check Programme for Health and Beyond.
The post holder will support the Practice Nurses and Doctors in the implementation of individualised care and therapy programmes for patients. Respond to patient queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors to the surgery.
The post holder will be a pro-active, enthusiastic individual, they will be highly motivated, lead by example and be solution focused, they will be expected to use their own initiative whilst working independently in a high profile and busy environment and to actively look for opportunities to explore improved ways of working in order to enhance the quality and efficiency of the service provided.
Main duties of the job
Job Responsibilities:
The post holder will work within and mentor the HCA team, and also work closely with Hub Managers to ensure that appraisals including personal development planning takes place annually.
The post holder will supervise the General Practice Assistant Team with daily responsibility for the supervision and co-ordination of the team with responsibility for planning and organising rotas, work allocation and appraisals including personal development planning.
The post holder will be responsible for the performance management of the GPA Team and ensure protocols and guidelines are adhered to.
The post holder will implement and maintain excellent standards of practice and regularly evaluate these.
The post holder will generate and update statistical and management information including reports as and when required
The post holder will prioritise the demands of their team, managing frequent disruptions and conflicting priorities.
The post holder will analyse and promptly respond to problems or queries as required.
The post holder will work closely with the Lead Nurse to oversee the training and development of the HCA/GPA Team.
The post holder will possess excellent communication skills and be computer literate.

To post holder will act as a trainer/mentor to the HCA/GPA Team
The post holder will act as NHS Health Check Champion for the organisation working with other stakeholders to ensure the successful running of the NHS Health check programme
The post holder will work with the Lead Nurse to ensure that QOF targets are met in the nursing team.
The post holder will oversee the ordering systems for consumables/vaccines for the whole of the organisation ensuring that a robust database system is maintained.
The post holder will attend clinical meetings representing the HCA/GPA Team.
The post holder will run and also supervise/mentor HCA/GPA Clinics including: -
Venepuncture
Learning Disability Clinics
SMI Clinics
Blood pressure recording
Administer:
Influenza vaccines
Pneumococcal vaccines
Shingles vaccines
Administer B12 vaccines
Collection of specimens as directed
Urinalysis
Height and weight measurement
24 Hr Blood Pressure monitoring
Spirometry, peak flow measurements and nebulizing
Performing ECG and recording
Basic wound care including 2-layer bandaging
Removal of sutures/clips etc.
Assistance in the minor operating suite
Clinical fridge maintenance & cold chain
Smoking Cessation and other Health Promotion Activities
The post holder will assist in routine Child Health Surveillance
The post holder will assist in Chronic Disease Clinics, including monitoring inhaler technique and foot pulses
The post holder will be able to perform NHS Health Checks and New patient checks
The post holder will provide examination of ears and ear syringing in line with protocol
Undertake the following basic administrative activities as necessary
Answering the telephone, receiving and transmitting messages
Filing in forms
Arranging patient appointments
Liaise with other health care professionals
Filing and record keeping as necessary
To ensure clinical supplies are replaced/rotated across all clinical rooms
To support other Health Care Professionals in the various chronic disease management clinics
Any clinical tasks as deemed appropriate and supported by individual training
To record appropriate information in patient held records, clinic records and the practice computer system to comply with legal and professional requirements.
To maintain confidentiality at all times
To comply with all appropriate practice policies, clinical practices and protocols
To comply with health and safety fire regulations and to report accidents/ incidents to the relevant colleagues as soon as practical.
