Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the small specialist team in Cornwall's Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) Service. Applicants with a specialist understanding of ME/CFS and Post Viral Fatigue and are invited to apply for the above post. This post will sit across both Countywide ME/CFS and Post Covid Syndrome (PCS) Services.
The role is to provide complex, functional, cognitive, affect and emotional assessment to patients with these debilitating conditions, as part of a collaborative occupational approach to patient rehabilitation and care.
Applicants with a background in neurology, sensory integration, community rehabilitation, cognitive and behavioural approaches to working and supporting people with long term conditions are desired. A good level of understanding and knowledge of working with people with ME/CFS and PCS is needed although training, supervision and support will be given. Applications need to be able to provide tailored programmes of rehabilitation based around symptoms management and activity management.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist assessment and plan rehabilitative treatment to adult patients within ME/CFS and PCS services who may have a sudden onset and moderate to severe complex needs or have a long-term chronic presentation with the need for continuous review, adaptation and adjustment. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions delivered as a team member and confident practitioner using independence of judgement and to work across the health community in providing tailored and personalised care for this patient group. To contribute to the measurement and evaluation of clinical practice in own practice using Evidence Based Practice, current research and audit and support own professional development. To act as a knowledgeable resource leading to the provision of high-quality teaching and training of others including trainees and students. To contribute to clinical governance and service development within the speciality in partnership with professional specialists and other clinicians. To jointly run and contribute to the service group-work programme.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience Essential
Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy HCPC Registered Experience of evaluating service delivery and monitoring effectiveness and outcomes of intervention, and of undertaking clinical audit and research Evidence of attending and using specialist knowledge gained from post-graduate study and courses to support practice.
Desirable
Experience of working in the NHS in the following clinical areas: eg stroke, eldercare, neurology Experience of working in a community setting
Skills and Aptitude Essential
Knowledge of national agendas influencing clinical practice eg NICE Ability to communicate clearly, directly and honestly, in an open manner. Specialist level assessment skills
