Job summary
A position has arisen for a full time Assistant Practitioner Role in research working in the perioperative, CCU and surgical unit. The research portfolio is expanding and this exciting position is required to support the research nurses in clinical trial delivery. The unit is seeking a flexible, adaptable worker who enjoys learning new skills within a developing environment. There may be travel across both RMH sites.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate should have a flexible approach to their duties and the ability to work as part of a team. In addition excellent communication, administrative and IT skills and being supportive and open to new initiatives are particularly valued by the team.
The post holder will carry out assigned duties under direct and indirect supervision of senior nursing staff, assisting in the provision of routine clinical and research care for research participants. They will also provide, through divisional policies, a safe environment for the treatment of patients and protection of staff.
Clinical tasks undertaken by the AP will be ratified by the nursing Radiography and Rehabilitation Advisory Committee (NRRAC) and the research nurse team leader will be responsible for ensuring competency is achieved and maintained and as such clinical tasks to be undertaken will therefore be specific to each clinical area.

Maintain compassion, empathy, dignity, comfort, and sensitivity of patients and their relatives at all times. Monitor and record patients vital signs (including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation) and report any abnormal results to registered nursing staff Measure and record patients height and weight. Undertake clinical tasks relevant to the specific clinical area following competency sign off. For example: ECG, urinalysis, MRSA screening swabs, recording of allergies on EPR and other clinical tasks where training/competency sign off has been deemed appropriate for HCA/AP and has been ratified through NRRAC. To demonstrate a understanding of infection control issues by attending mandatory training; understand infection control policy and procedure, accept responsibility for own infection control practice and be willing to challenge others practice. Direct or escort patients and their belongings between departments and clinical areas. To collect patients medications from pharmacy. Report to registered nurses any problems arising during observation of our conversations with patients and carers. Co-operate with all colleagues to maintain a presentable and safe environment. To clean equipment after use, including trolleys and drip strands. To inform the nurse in charge when repairs are needed. Collect blood samples and process them as per clinical lab manual provided by the sponsor Ensure stock levels of clinical and non-clinical supplies are maintained through ordering, storing and rotating stock and safely disposing of out of date stock. To service/calibration history and sponsor requirements. To assist nursing and medical staff with various clinical procedures when delegated appropriately by a registered nurse e.g. observation of patients after intradermal injections. To report faulty equipment to the relevant department for the repair. Request tissue as per trial protocol and in line with hospital policy and HTA regulation, ensuring patient consent has been given in advance.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications Essential
Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Maths GCSEs or equivalent) Either BTEC higher diploma or Foundation degree or Degree in relevant subject area (science or health and social care).

Clinical Research qualification/s.

Some previous experience working in healthcare setting.
