About this role

Job summary

St Clements Surgery is looking for a qualified dispenser to join our friendly, caring, busy team. Previous experience of working in a dispensing practice would be desirable. The candidate is required to have a minimum of NVQ Level 2 in Dispensary services or equivalent and must adhere to the Practices Standard Operating Procedures and other Practice protocols and policies.

This is a part time position for 22 hours, but the ideal candidate must be flexible to cover holiday, sickness and early/late shifts and the occasional Saturday morning rota. The person we are looking for must be accurate, possess good communication skills and be a team player. Knowledge of SystmOne clinical system within a primary care setting would also be desirable.

Hours Available:

Tuesday 8-6 / 8.30-6.30

Thursday 8-6 / 8.30-6.30

Friday 2-6

Main duties of the job

Primary responsibilities include:

Prescription clerk duties

Dispensing of all repeat prescriptions and acute medication, process medication ready for collection and delivery.

Placing orders for stock with approved suppliers, ensuring orders are placed with consideration for overall stock control.

Monthly CD balance checks

Counting prescriptions and sending off at the end of month to the NHS BA.

Receiving drug orders including controlled drugs, checking contents, putting stock away and contacting suppliers if order is wrong.

Liaise with patients about their medication and any queries.

Answering and dealing with phone enquiries.

You would be part of a friendly & professional team of 5 Dispensers and 1 assistant. The Practice has around 7800 patients, so it is a busy but enjoyable working environment.

The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way. Assist in the preparation, dispensing of prescriptions and assist with stock control, ordering and restocking of the dispensary.

Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage

Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions

Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record.

Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matter

Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed with in accordance with practice policy.

Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to SOPs, NICE, CQC guidance

Assisting when required in meeting targets in relation to dispensing doctors scheme

Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order.

Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.Undertaking any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Dispensary Manager, Practice Manager or the Partners.

Qualifications Essential

Qualified to NVQ 2 in Dispensary Services or equivalent GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths or equivalent.

Experience Essential
