About Lihir Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team.  The Mechanical Advisor is the circuit’s field based technical specialist, providing hands on support to maintenance crews by ensuring work is performed safely, accurately, and to OEM and engineering standards. This role is deeply embedded in day to day execution—conducting inspections, validating defects, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring quality repairs that prevent repeat failures. The Technical Advisor delivers critical technical insights that improve reliability and supports the development of accurate work scopes, plans, and corrective actions. This position is ideal for a technically skilled individual who thrives in the field and is passionate about raising maintenance quality, eliminating defects, and keeping the plant running at its best.

Essential Duties 

• Field based technical specialist supporting trades. • Field technical quality & defect identification. • On the job technical support, inspections, troubleshooting, failure mode detection. • Conducts inspections and identifies detailed defects. • Raises notifications based on field findings. • Provides field technical detail for task lists, steps, materials, and QA/QC. • Advises on technical schedule readiness and constraints. • Supports technical quality on the job. • Ensures tolerances, standards, and methods are correct. • Provides technical detail on failures and measurements (CM data). • Provides technical analysis input and failure information. • Assists with BI and KPI evaluation. • Provides technical leadership in the field.

Training & Experience 

• Demonstrated experience in a similar role within the heavy industry • Experience conducting inspections, validating defects, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring quality repairs that prevent repeat failures • Technical leadership field experience • A valid drivers license

Working Conditions 
 This is a FIFO role on a 21/21 roster.
