Planner I (One Year Only)
Summary: Performs responsible, professional field and office professional planning tasks; assists more senior-level planners.
Qualifications: Required
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with major course work in municipal or school planning or a closely related field. • One (1) year of experience in planning. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
• Knowledge of the theory of urban and/or school planning. • Knowledge of engineering drawing and graphic illustration. • Ability to collect and compile research data. • Ability to prepare reports. • Ability to meet and deal with the public. • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data relating to land use, population, and economic and social trends. • Analyzes and makes recommendations with respect to the need for school facilities. • Determines the need of each proposed school site by checking population density, soil drainage, topography, and utilities. • Makes preliminary staff recommendations. • Translates physical and statistical data into the cartographic form. • Tabulates and records population distribution and density. • Prepares reports of statistical data using graphic presentations. • Writes narrative descriptions. • Attends and participates in meetings and conferences. • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
