Lead Person II
Job Description: The Group Leader is expected to function with minimal supervision and is expected to perform tasks maintaining 80 to 85 percent utilization. The position requires thorough knowledge of the process methods in the areas they are to Lead. • Every employee is responsible for knowing and supporting the quality policy and must comply with published Personnel Policies including but not limited to providing a harassment free/non-discriminatory work environment and drug-free workplace; in accordance with State and Federal laws or face disciplinary action which may include possible prosecution and/or termination of employment. • Responsible for providing leadership for the production group by setting a good example and facilitating overall department performance to meet or exceed expectations in terms of safety quality, productivity, attendance, and housekeeping. • Knowledgeable and capable of performing all aspects of armor production processes, including preparation for lay-up, mixing of resins and catalysts, lay-up, loading cure bags, applying spall shield, trimming, and finishing of armor products as necessary. Must be able to move and assist in moving materials, parts, assemblies, tools and equipment as required including the loading/unloading of applicable equipment. • Understands schedule requirements for daily rates, process cycle times, and task time. Actively involved in monitoring all workstations and adjusting work assignments to assure smooth flow daily. • Provides direct support to supervisors in running day-to-day activities. Understands and implements jobs in accordance with BAE Systems standard work and quality standards. Shift leaders need to be fully capable of running daily production operations. • Feedback to supervisor any employee tardiness and absence. Communicating with other shifts leads to daily activities and requirements. Report any equipment breakdown and supply shortages. Report any injuries and/or illnesses from employees and provide services accordingly. • Check all supplies needed to run production area. Replenish as needed for stock room. • Directs, coordinates, and actively always participates in upholding standards for safety and housekeeping. The group leader is responsible for maintaining shift compliance daily. • Trains employees in new methods, procedures, safety, and teamwork. Be a leader to employees to seek out areas where training is needed and effectively train employees. • Performs craftsman responsibilities as required and assigned by the department supervisor or manager and the quality assurance department. Performs other duties, consistent with the position, as assigned or required. Expected to perform fabrication tasks. The position requires thorough knowledge of the process methods in the areas they are to Lead.
Required Skills and Education: • Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing environment plus proven leadership skills or equivalent combination of education and experience. • A working knowledge of shop mathematics including fractions and decimals. • Proficient skill in reading, interpreting, and working from templates, patterns, process sheets, sketches, charts, and equipment operating manuals. • Skill in interfacing with personnel outside of the armor department. • Leadership and facilitator skills in working as a team leader. • Team leadership skills training.

Preferred Skills and Education: • Skill in the use of various equipment to include the reading and interpretation of gauges, and accurate reading of rulers, calipers. • Experience in a manufacturing environment with experience in composites or technical schooling in related areas or any approved equivalent combination of experience, technical training, and/or education. • Knowledge of the general characteristics, peculiarities, and reactions of various materials such as resins, adhesives, and chemical solutions under processing operations and conditions. • Proficient skill using various hand tools and electric or pneumatic powered tools. • Demonstrated skill in reading, interpreting, and working from templates, patterns, process sheets, blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, charts, and equipment operating manuals. • Demonstrated and proven skill in fabricating structural and armor composite parts and assemblies.
