About this role
Position Overview Shining Rock Classical Academy seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and student-centered Part-Time Art Teacher to provide engaging visual arts instruction to students in grades 3–8. The Art Teacher will foster creativity, artistic expression, and an appreciation for the arts while supporting the school's mission of cultivating critical thinking skills and a lifelong love of learning through rigorous academics, experiential education, and our core values of Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, Wisdom, and Leadership. The ideal candidate will create a positive and organized classroom environment where students are encouraged to explore a variety of artistic techniques, develop confidence in their abilities, and experience the joy of creating. Essential Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum
• Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction for students in grades 3–8.
• Develop engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Visual Arts.
• Introduce students to a variety of artistic media, techniques, processes, and art history concepts.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of learners.
• Foster creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-expression through the arts.
• Integrate opportunities for cross-curricular connections when appropriate.
Classroom Environment
• Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and well-managed learning environment.
• Teach and reinforce procedures related to the proper use and care of art materials and equipment.
• Encourage student responsibility and pride in their work.
• Display student artwork throughout the school and during special events.
Assessment and Communication
• Monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback on artistic growth and participation.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance as required by the school.
• Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration to support student success.
School Community
• Support school-wide events and activities as appropriate.
• Assist in organizing student art displays, exhibitions, or showcases throughout the school year.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for the school's mission and core values.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Visual Arts, or a related field preferred.
• North Carolina teaching license in Visual Arts preferred, or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students preferred.
• Knowledge of child development and effective instructional practices for grades 3–8.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Must be able to work well with members of the specialist team.
• Ability to inspire creativity and build positive relationships with students.
