QUALIFICATIONS:

• Iowa Coaching Certification

• Coaching experience

• Experience working with junior high and/or high school youth

• Participates in assigned or agreed-upon practices, competitions, and program activities, which may occur during evenings, weekends, summer, or other allowable times.

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Head Coach JOB GOALS: To provide skills that will engage all levels of athletes and promote physical activity in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follows and ensures compliance with all applicable Board policies, District procedures, and regulations

• Maintains positive, professional, and appropriate interactions with student-athletes, coaches, families, and spectators.

• Demonstrates enthusiasm and interacts positively and appropriately with student-athletes in an athletic setting.

• Supports the supervision of student-athletes during practices or competitions, and when present; volunteer coaches may not independently supervise student-athletes and must perform their duties under the supervision of a paid District coach.

• Supports the development of student-athletes by reinforcing sport-specific fundamentals, skills, techniques, and strategies under the direction of the coaching staff.

• Demonstrates cooperation and professionalism when working with other athletic programs, coaches, and District staff.

• Supports the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes through positive, appropriate interactions and adherence to established team and District expectations.

• Must maintain active licensure (includes CPR)

VOLUNTEER COACH LIMITATIONS: Volunteer coaches serve in a supplemental role and work under the direction and supervision of District-authorized paid coaching staff. Volunteer coaches:

• Should not be responsible for communication with parents/guardians

• Volunteer coaches are not expected or required to attend all practices, competitions, or team activities. Participation is limited to specific practices, competitions, or activities as requested or approved by the Head Coach, and volunteer coaches do not maintain a regular or required coaching schedule.

• Refer student-athlete concerns to a paid coach.

• Assists District coaching staff with student-athlete supervision during assigned activities and in accordance with District expectations.

• Shall not make public statements which may be construed as negative or not in the support of the District, school, or athletic program.

• Shall not assist in responding to injuries or emergency situations only at the direction of and under the supervision of the Head Coach or other authorized District staff.
