Long Term Substitute Physical Education /Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Must have RI Dept of Ed. Certification Instructs students in physical education activities in public school: Plans physical education program to promote development of student's physical attributes and social skills. Teaches individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students. Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games, such as volleyball, baseball, basketball, badminton, softball, tennis, golf, gymnastics, and aerobics. Instructs individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics, gymnastics, or corrective exercises, determining type and level of difficulty of exercises, corrections needed, and prescribed movements, applying knowledge of sports, physiology, and corrective techniques. Teaches and demonstrates use of gymnastic and training apparatus, such as weights. Confers with students, parents, and school counselor to resolve student problem. May select, store, order, issue, and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies used in physical education program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the School District and other appropriate learning activities. 2.Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program. 3.Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, and fundamentals of body movement. 4.May teach Physical Education classes for special education students. 5.Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field area to insure the over all safety of students. 6.Maintains control of storage and use of school owned property. 7.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in physical education areas. 8.Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports, and maintains records of grades. 9.Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and/or in self selected professional growth activities. 10.Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. 11.Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. 12.Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 13.Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. 14.Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 15.May teach other health related topics as assigned or deemed necessary. Health certification of newly hired PE teachers. 16.Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or his/her designee
