Job Description: 2nd and 3rd split shifts

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provides crisis, suicide and homicide intervention counseling over the telephone to callers needing emergency/crisis assistance, identifies and suggests appropriate organizations and service providers to meet callers' needs, and monitors status of callers' situations through case follow-up.

• Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills and ability and willingness to suspend personal judgement regarding callers presenting with diverse issues.

• Demonstrates ability and willingness to protect caller and co-worker confidentiality

• Documents and maintains accurate, thorough records of all telephone interventions transacted during the work shift.

• Reviews daily and “pass through” call reports to ensure accurate information documentation and records maintenance.

• As assigned, supervises and monitors the work of volunteers and/or staff counselors on individual shifts to ensure provision of quality crisis assistance services, adherence to all CIC and SCS policies and procedures and accurate documentation.

• As assigned, provides crisis intervention and suicide awareness and prevention training and consultation to other crisis intervention counselors and volunteers, other service providers, and community groups as requested.

• Attends and participates in individual supervision, staff and team meetings, required CIC, 988 and SCS training sessions.

• As assigned, represents the CIC in internal and external activities to promote crisis and suicide awareness, prevention and available resources.

EDUCATION

• Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Social Services or a related field of study. Psychology degree preferred.

Or

• For active CIC volunteers:

• High School diploma or GED with successful completion of all AAS/988/Vibrant required training for Crisis/Suicide Intervention Counselor status and minimum of six months of volunteer Crisis Intervention Counselor independent service with the CIC after completion of required training.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of one year experience in crisis intervention services / behavioral health services.

• Previous Crisis Call Center experience preferred

• Previous experience working in a confidential remote work environment preferred

REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to make sound decisions and judgments in highly stressful, potentially life-threatening to callers and/or unusual situations.

• Strong work ethic, understanding of and commitment to the capacity needs of an emergency 24/7/365 mental health service provider.

• The ability to communicate effectively in a remote team environment.
